College Degree and being a Mom?

So I'm starting college next year and I need to pick a major. I'm really stressing out because I know I want to do something I love and (as bad as It sounds) I would like to make a good amount of money. So I have no idea what to major in.  Then on top of that I know I want to be a mom and I know I would like to work less or with flexible hours or work from home because it's important to me that I be with my kids, but I still want to make good money and support them. Plus I want foster kids, so having good money is even a bigger deal and I would want to be home with all my kids even more!

What should I major in so I can accomplish all these things and not have a wasted major when I have kids? Is it even possible?

It sounds like children are really important to you in general. Why not get your degree in Early Childhood Education, and open a home-daycare. You'd be surprised at how many grants and federal/state funding you can get if you get certified by your state and a licensed home daycare, and you won't have to sacrifice being with your children through their early years. The average tuition for a child under the age of 5 (before formal schooling begins) ranges from $125-$200 a WEEK here in MO where I live, and with a provider holding an applicable degree to childcare, and able to provide age-appropriate educational activities, you can justifiably charge even more, and parents will happily pay it.

Pick something that u LOVE to do! Doesn't matter what it is 😉 Don't pick a major just for the $$

I wanted to be a RN (nurse) but I don't like needles at all and can't deal with people dying.. U know?

So I changed my major to education. Going to be a middle or high school math teacher. I love math & love teaching.

Remember whatever major u choose.. It's what ur going to be doing until ur retirement of applicable

Yeah you can go ahead and start on your degree and just take the basic courses to start like math english, etc. Because you'll have to have them anyway. Some colleges have workshops to help you decide and test you can take to help narrow it.

It's important that you decide what you want to major in because if not, you'll be unhappy and end up changing anyway down the road. I started out to be a RN because I knew they start out with decent salaries. Well after 2 semesters I ended up thinking and I thought well I know I like nursing because I've did home health and worked in nursing homes, but do I want the long hours and and hits and gifts way from my child that accompany it? No. So i changed my major to criminal justice something ive had a passion for since I was 9. I have my Associate's now and even though the salary starting out is a bit different, I couldn't be happier with my decision because I'm happy doing what I'm doing and I have the hours I want. I started school online when my son was 9 months old. Good luck I hope you find and do what you're happy doing because the majority of people that go after a certain salary in a certain field, end up being miserable and hate what they are doing and even the money can't make up for it. You're more apt to stay in are career if you do what you love rather than for the money. I'm so glad I changed my major.

I know a lot of schools (like my university) don't require you to officially declare a major until your junior year/when you reach a certain number of credits. Talk to a guidance counselor and see if your school offers career aptitude tests that might show you your interests and strengths, and don't forget that you can always change your mind!

It really depends on what you're good at...
Engineering usually pays really, really well (most jobs are $30-100 an hour) but you have to be excellent at math/science/mechanics.
Nursing is a steady job that pays really well, but the hours are often brutal. 
As another commenter said, opening your own business is a great option, but the hours are still high, and there's some financial risk with that.

Only way possible is your own business but it has to be something stable that way u get to be at home when u have employees and manage the business from home. Good luck!
