Did you see a Perinatologist?

My doctor wasn't too much help at my first appt today. (I'm 13 wks, prior appt's were with his nurses, nurse practitioners). 😔 Lots of textbook answers. No additional testing/advice than for a "normal healthy" pregnancy, which I def do not have. I believe every pregnancy is diff and should be analized more carefully (esp if you have several issues like me), so my next step is to see a Perinatologist (Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist). They look at high risk pregnancies and make out a specialized plan. Or that's what I'm led to believe so far anyway. Have any of you been in a similar situation? Fingers crossed I can do lots of proactive things and end up with a healthy full-term baby!

I saw one before I became pregnant because of my need for certain medications. She evaluated my situation and made a plan for treatment during pregnancy. It was very helpful and helped to put my mind at ease.

This is my second pregnancy with an MFM, luckily I got the same one. I have an incompetent cervix and have been seeing him since I was 10 weeks along. I'm 30.3 weeks now, cerclage still holding up and removal is in less than 6 weeks.

Why do you think you need to see an MFM? The regular ob usually refers you to one when you qualify due to something that makes you high risk.

I will be seeing a Perinatologist around 20 weeks.

I have a MFM and he is wonderful. I'm glad you got the teferal and hope you get the care you need :)

I see a maternal fetal specialist that I see every month and get an ultrasound everyone as well. I have a heart shaped uterus with a septum so my cervix is measured every two weeks as baby's growth is monitored every month.

I have a high risk doctor due to a medical condition that I have. They never made a "specialized plan" but they see me every 3 weeks, do an ultrasound at every appointment and make decisions based off what they see. It's really no different than a normal pregnancy, except I see him often and see my regular OB separately but they won't do anything more unless they see something happening that shouldn't be, or if they see something not happening that should be. I was very concerned with my doctor at first, but it's important to talk with them about what's going to happen. If you feel like things aren't being done the way they should, speak up or find a new doctor.

I've been seeing a high risk doctor this entire pregnancy due to two prior miscarriages.

I am only allowed to be followed by MFM. My issue is that they tote around residents so I'll see someone new every time with a handful of the MFM drs. There are 3 that are fully aware of my situation and how severely high risk I am. Only problem is it's the only office in a 50 mile radius that can handle my pregnancy.

My Dr didn't refer me till 17 weeks. They wanted to wait till I was closer to the time of when I had my boys. (24w-32w) plus started me in p17 shots
