Overwhelmed with breast pump choices?

Question

I know I want an electric one because I can't see using a manual with my bad carpel tunnel. Anyone have suggestions as to what features to look for and any other advice?

You can get one free from your insurance now, so I'd go with whatever they give me.

My advice don't go cheap trying to save money your breast pump is a very important tool I had a cheapie electric single hand held and never got a drop of milk with it I then got a medela double electric pump that instantly became my best friend

Thanks for all the feedback. Just found out my insurance covers the Medela at 100%. I have to wait 30 days before my due date to order though.

I am trying to get it through my insurance since it's free that way (waiting to be approved right now). To me, another perk of doing that is that it drastically reduces your choices. Made it much easier for me. I chose a Medela pump after comparing reviews for the 3 electric pumps I was offered.

There are so many choices out there. One thing I didn't realize is that not all electric pumps are closed system, meaning that for some of the popular brands at target and babies r us the milk actually comes in contact with the pump motor. This means it is not hygienic to buy a used open system pump, and there can be mildew issues. My insurance only provides closed system pumps.  You can easily sell the pump later, and the new owner just needs a new accessory kit :). I got a hygeia enjoye.
