Need 411

Hoping to get some answers! My period is expected to come next week 3/16.... I started bleeding yesterday., it started as a light bleeding only when I wiped now it turned into a heavy bleeding with slight cramps. I havnt seen any blood clots and its bright red.  I've never had a period like this and I have been off of BC pills now for 6 months. My husband and I tried to conceive last month and my window would have been 14 days before I started bleeding yesterday. Could this be IB or maybe a miscarriage? I didn't take a test yet so I'm not sure what else it would be.
