Anemic?

So I'm slightly anemic and when I asked my dr how much iron I should take, they just told me to look up the fda guide lines.. What are you taking or what was the recommended dose for you guys?

Recommend to me was at least 30mg I bought 28mg of iron pills for the simple fact that it's easier on the stomach and won't get me constipated. You can find 30mg and there are plenty of foods you can eat to help the iron deficiency.

The safest way to treat iron-deficiency anemia is with proper diet. Here are some food sources: Liver, eggs, meat, green leafy veggies (sprinkle with lemon juice for best absorption), almonds, avocados, beets, molasses, dates, kelp, kidney beans, peaches, prunes, raisins, sesame seeds. Whole grains are a good source of B vitamins, as are beef, beans, eggs and most nuts.

60 or 65 mg pills are the basic ones I am anemic and I take 1 a day without food. Because your body intakes the iron better.

Your pharmacist is a great resource. They can point you in the direction of highly bioavailable supplements. There is a new one called Feramax in Canada that is better for the stomach and has higher absorption rates. Not sure if it's in the US as well.

If your dr did an iron test and you are not below the standard you'll be ok.
