How long were you engaged?

I'm just wondering how long it is "normal" to be engaged? My so (28) and I (18) have been talking about that for quite some time, as I definitely want to marry this man, but I feel I'm a bit too young to be married. Do you think being engaged for a longer time makes sense for our situation? We already agree that we want to be married, so why not make it official? That's my train of thoughts...

Iv been with my man for 5 1/2 years. I'm 23 n he's 25!x we've been engaged for 4 1/2 years x I always wanted a long engagement :) xx

1 year 1 month we were engaged just to plan and pay for it but we were 23 and ready to be married when we got engaged.  Take your time if you want or wait to get engaged officially the ring isn't necessary for the commitment to each other.

We waited until we finished with college & had established careers to get engaged. Together for 6 years before we got engaged (in March) and didn't get married until the following July. We were already living together and had a house. It was a priority for us to be more financially stable. But, like others have said & I agree, everyone's relationship is different. Is there any reason to do it immediately?

We were engaged for 7 months before getting married. He went to basic training a month after we got married. Been married for just over 4 years. No one knows your life & relationship better than the two of you. Do whatever feels right. No one can make the decisions for you. We're happy with the decisions we've made :) good luck to the both of you!

Um about 6 weeks? ☺ That's not something I recommend for everybody, but our situation was a little different. We were not that young, living together and had our destination wedding booked before we were "officially" engaged. My husband had my ring made and it took quite a bit longer to be finished than we expected for his proposal. Several years later we are still married and expecting baby #1, so it all worked out for us. 👍

My husband and I were engaged for a year, October to October. But you are still very young. I would give yourself at least another two years.

We are planning to be married in August 2016 and were engaged on Christmas, so 20 months. Ours is due to money and things we need to get done to the house before we can spend a couple grand on a day.
