Does anyone take Metformin for PCOS?

I was wondering if any one has taken Metformin for PCOS and does it help regulate your periods? Did it help you lose weight? Did you experience any kind of side effects? I have been having trouble with heavy bleeding and irregular periods and was prescribed Metformin to help regulate  them was wondering if it helps.
