Baby showers outside America?

I am from Ireland and it's not really common to have a baby shower. A small group of friends may throw a small little surprise shower but not with a registry etc and not expensive items e.g. maybe small little outfits. It seems very common in America but I just wondered about other countries, or other people in Ireland if they have experienced this?

I am from canada and my mother in law and mother just threw me one Saturday. We got a car load of things for the baby

Hey I am from Ireland. My sister had a babyshower, thrown by her friends. The gifts varied from clothes to bouncers and larger gifts that a couple of her friends went in on. 
Went to one for my manager too well ex manager now, and the gifts were smaller as there was a dinner too. But mostly outfits, toys and bottled.
I made hampers for both.

I'm from US and living in Sweden, when we talked about having a baby shower, they just stared at us confused lol. Anyway, my fiance will still throw me one, since it's our first baby. No registry, not expecting people to give us gifts, no games, just a gathering with friends celebrating the coming of our baby

I am living in Germany. Baby showers don't exist here but I have a lot of international friends who are super excited to attend a shower. :) no big items though.

I'm from Canada and they are very common for first baby, as far as big items go, my mom bought me crib, but most ppl don't buy big items unless group of ppl chip in, I used all gift cards toward my big item which was my stroller/car seat combo
