Does spotting count as a period day?

I always bleed for about 2 days and then have brown spotting for another 5, gradually getting lighter and lighter. Do the spotting days count as period days even though it's just brown and not really a "flow"? Or does my period only last the 2 days?

I usually have what I call my 'warning period' which is just spotting, then a light day and then 'the massacre.' But I count my spotting as the first day of my period.

I usually spot for a day or two, then bleed regularly for 2 days, then spot brown blood for another two days or so. I count my spotting days as a part of my period.
