Was this unprofessional?

Question

Im hopeless and its only getting worse. Last week I had a job interview at a retail store. They told me they liked me and scheduled me down for a second interview with them on Monday. Two days later I get a call from them telling me that they have to reschedule the 2nd interveiw due to the head managers illness. After hours of not hearing from them that monday, I call them and the employee that picked up told me there were no managers in but she would let one of them know that I called. It's been 3 days since I was supposed to get a call and now I've got my hopes up for nothing. Why would they tell me they want another interveiw with me and not call me back?

Before becoming a mom, I worked in Human Resources for several years, which means that I hired all employees. I completely understand where the other girls think that you should continuously call back to check in, but from my standpoint, I would call one more time, leave a message and wait for a response back. Is it unprofessional for them to setup an interview, cancel it, and not return your call with an explanation? Yes. I just wouldn't continuously call. To some it may look like you REALLY want the job, but when I had the same person calling all the time, it became too much (especially if I said that if I was interested, I'd get back in touch with them). Just a different perspective for you to consider!

I've worked in retail for 10 years. Just keep following up. Managers get busy doing other things, and forget about stuff. Plus mgmt likes when the person seems very interested and persistent.

Don't listen to that employee either, there always has to be a manager on duty, regardless of what store or what size it it. Ask for store manager and usually they'll transfer you to any member of management because they think its really important.

A lot of sickness is going around you may have to bear with it. I would call again and see if manager is there maybe tomorrow or Friday if not try again Monday. You may start getting on their nerves but they'll see that you are very interested and that will look good. Also if one has been out it causes a lot of stress and extra work so they may just be so busy handling the extra load that they might need a reminder

I'm a retail manager. If there's a lot going on its easy to forget or push back things until you have time to deal with it. Business comes first and it's kind of a crazy time for retail with it being peak and spring break. I'd wait a few more days and then call again. Good luck.

I work in hr at a retail store. I wouldn't call constantly if I were you. It really annoys us. Lol they should totally have called you back though. That was wrong on they're part. I will tell you this week (at least for my store) had been crazy hectic since Easter is now like second Christmas for people, they may have gotten behind. Try calling one more time and ask for someone in hr, if no one is there ask for when hr is there. Don't ask for a manager, chances are the manager can't help you and you need to speak to hr to set the appt. Good luck!
