Horseback riding while pregnant??

Hey horsey moms.. I have a wonderful Arab Mare and I've been riding my whole life, even went for a ride with a cast on my leg at one point, but now that I'm pregnant I feel very very hesitant to ride. I feel like my family is judging me for not exercising my horse enough but I feel like with so much at stake the risk of falling is just too high... 😕
My mare is 23 now and still in great shape, generally calm but loves to run and be silly.

I'd like to hear any advice or experiences from other horse people out there... Am I being paranoid or is this really the best time to give my horse some time off?

She's beautiful 😍.  I would just talk to your OB or doctor and see what they say about the subject. That way if your family says anything you can tell them that you're following the advice or your doctor. Maybe if you can't ride then some lunge sessions (if she's cool with that) would be beneficial to keep her active.

I heard its dangerous . I would walk with her and pet her and keep her company , until after you give birth and can ride again. Good luck on your pregnancy! God bless

Ive ridden my whole life but decided against it when I got pregnant. I just always walk my girl around even just for the company!

I decided not to ride. 4 days before I found out I was pregnant I got thrown off.

I've heard your allowed to ride up till your 3rd trimester or else it can engage baby sooner and cause early labour. But if you want to ride try a walk or even go faster by trotting. Don't canter or gallop though. More risk falling off then. If you want to let her run ask someone else in the barn if they'd be able to canter her around the arena for a bit so she can do it and let her be in a field with other horses too if she gets along okay with others, my horse Maggie didn't get along with a couple mares and some of the geldings so she could only go out with certain horses. Or you can lung her too if you want to let her run while being safe.

I'm 19 weeks and still riding my 5 year old TB. And up until two weekends ago I was still barrel racing with my other. I say it's up to you and if your doctor thinks it could be an issue.

I had although a horse while pregnant. My woderful Belinda was around 20 years old too... So I was SURE she wouldn't do anything what would hurt me. I was horseback riding my both pregnancies... Until some days before giving birth. I didn't overdue it. Just took a ride outside. It was wonderful. It's much more riskier to drive by car to your horse than riding an older horse carefuly! Go by your feelings - they will guide you. Your horse will although be fine if you don't ride while your pregnancy - than she can stay outside and be out to grass.
