After birth events?

Question

So, I just learned that immediately after birth, there will be more contractions to shrink the uterus and to pass the placenta. Did any of you get your belly massaged to shrink the uterus? I was told that it is painful. Anyone had this happen without meds? What's it like?

After the baby was delivered my midwife told me to push once more and placenta slid right out... I don't remember even feeling it!  Then they did massage my belly and I felt blood and liquid coming out which was kinda of gross but it didn't hurt at all.  Then throughout the first day after delivery the nurses would massage it every so often to make sure it was shrinking which it was.  Breast feeding helps it to shrink too!

The massage does hurt n is really uncomfortable but it's nothing compared to the pain you were feeling moments before. It's only for a few minutes and you'll be so focused on your new baby that you won't even care.

I delivered on my hands and knees and after he was out I stayed in my knees while holding him for a few min and then I told the midwife that I felt something else coming and I delivered my placent. I was given a massage after to and it felt wonderful. I had back labour only and did not feel any tummy contractions.

I had the most perfect natural birth no drugs at all and I walked from the tub (water birth) to the bed to deliver my placenta etc and the contractions started after a few minutes and they were quite painful but nothing like labour contractions, and I was distracted by baby on my chest! My midwife massaged my belly a little but to see if it was going down etc but nothing major. Was all over in a matter of mins. But breastfeeding makes your uterus contract more (it's a good thing) so that sometimes hurts and is like mini contractions.

I hardly noticed the passing if the placenta.  However, the "massage" made me want to vomit.  It hurt really bad.  I don't remember it hurting with my first so much, but I know that the more babies you have the worse it gets. My last delivery was flawless but afterward, even while nursing her, I had some serious contractions from my uterus shrinking... 😁  It lasted a couple days but tapered off.

I actually had no idea the placenta had been delivered. Granted, I had an epidural, but I never felt the placenta come out. I actually said to my husband many hours later, "I wonder wheb the placenta and stuff will come out," and he just stared at me hahaha

I remember my Dr. massaging my uterus to help the placenta detach and I was told to push. It probably took less than 5 minutes, but I remember being annoyed. I had slight cramps when breastfeeding but I didn't take anything for them. I hear the second time around is a different story. I will find out in a month or so...

Massage was a misleading term in my case. It hurt like hell but was over quick. But for my friend, it was much less painful. They took their time. I also had pitocin after the birth to increase the contractions and shrink my uterus faster.

It does hurt some but you'll be so enchanted with the new baby you won't even care! Usually they don't give any meds unless you start hemmoraging or need stitches
