Any regrets with cloth diapers?

I'm a ftm and starting to consider cloth diapers bc of their cost and earth-friendly benefits-- I'm just a little scared of the extra work (cleaning) they will add, as I know having a new baby will already bring so many new responsibilities to my workload! 😁 has anyone used them and regretted the decision? Also, how did you ever decide between all the brands? It is pretty overwhelming! ☺️

With my toddler we started cloth when she was about 2.5 months old.. We didn't have enough so I used disposables also.. Now she's almost potty training we have been exclusively using cloth for more than a year.. We love cloth and will never go back to disposables. With this baby I'm going to use cloth from the moment he's born!! Cloth is super easy to take care of we have a sprayer, which I highly recommend! And use honest detergent. I spray before I put diaper in bucket and then just dump the load in when full and do an extra rinse. I sew my own diapers because I couldn't find a brand that I loved. Also it's way cheaper!

I was so scared when I decided to try cloth diapers with my first.  I ended up loving it and will do cloth with our 2nd child as well. It just gets easier and easier.  Some people look at me like I'm crazy when I say I cloth diapered but when I hear stories or leaking at night, horrible diaper rashes and kids taking forever to potty train I know I made the right choice.  I used disposables for the first few weeks so I wouldn't have to buy newborn sizes cloth diapers and so I would have a bit of time without worrying about getting the hang of cloth.  Definitely try different brands.  I read online not to buy a lot of the same brand but did it anyways with a brand I was sure would be the best but those ones leaked on my son :/ oops.  My favorite ended up being flip diapers.  When he was older I used two inserts at night to prevent leaks.  I would also keep a pack of biodegradable/flushable g-diaper liners on hand for times they would be more convenient and use these with the flip covers.

Love my cloth diapers and don't regret them for a minute!

Both partner and I work full time (I work a 50 hour week and he has had two jobs at the same time in the past) and we've never found it hard to fit into our schedule to clean. We also have a front load washer and have no problems getting the diapers clean.

If you are concerned about the time commitment, I recommend a larger stash so that you only have to do laundry 2-3 times a week.

As for poop when they get older, I recommend flushable liners. Easy to clean poop out and no soaking necessary.

I prefer BumGenius 4.0 with snaps, which is a pocket style diaper.

Did not regret it be any means. We chose based on talking to other moms and I did not want Velcro (snags too much and doesn't hold up). I also wanted ones that would fit for a long time, otherwise to keep buying new ones seemed a little bit senseless. If you have a front loader you will need to contact the company if they special instructions or they may not get clean. We have to put ours in wet to get enough water in the basin to clean them.  We also bought a toilet sprayer to clean then once he got older. If you nurse, you won't need to clean the poop out because it's considered organic. We use the pocketfolds. They require a but more work (stuffing them) but I can pick how absorbent they are. Any other questions?

Cloth diapers are not much extra work. At the time we had an old washer, which was great for clothies- we just washed them on hot with an extra spin and hung/tumble dried. We also used pocket diapers, love em! However, when the babe gets older and starts eating other than breastmilk, it's gets more complicated. I have known people who have a pre-soak bin next to the toilet that they'll throw the dirty diapers in... I always just wiped the poop in the toilet then put them in a wet bag. If you're contemplating it, ask a friend if you can borrow a stash for a while before investing!

I tried cloth with my last baby for only a short while. My baby was a pooper, I should say exploder and I couldn't keep up with the laundry. I felt I was having to do laundry constantly and doing laundry all the time, costs money too. So for me, it did not work, but as my baby got older he stopped pooping as much so I think then I may have been able to do it, I just already got rid of my cloth diapers. I am having a third baby here soon, and I will start with disposables, and see how it goes.

I cloth diapered until 6 months old, and switched to disposable because my husband didn't like the cleaning process and it was a point of tension for us. Once I switched, I regretted doing cloth immediately- I liked being eco-friendly, but the time commitment and level of extra work it took ended up being way more than I ever realized. It's definitely a stay at home mom's extra hobby and uses up any spare time. My husband and I compromised with Honest Company, still Eco-friendly (not as much) and also disposable.

My only regret with cloth diapers was not starting with a name brand. The cheap diapers I got at first were great until they weren't. (Leaking, PUL delaminating). That was a nightmare.
