How did everyone get ultrasounds already?

When I had my son I didn't have an ultrasound until I was 17 weeks and that's when they told me his gender but now I see everyone getting them at 6 7 8 weeks how the heck? I go in for my 10 week app on the 17th but I don't think I'll get an ultrasound prob won't this time again until like 18-22 weeks again so I'm just curious as to how some people get them sooner rather than later ?
