Question

So I'm naming my daughter a certain name but I hate how my parents are always calling her a name for short 
like it's her name but you call her that for short and I do not like it , like call her by her first name don't shorten it its annoying .
Idk if it's just me but it really irritates me . to the point that I consider naming her something else but her dad and I took so long on agreeing on a name and don't get me wrong I like her name but not how you say it for short .

My dad is going to call my daughter Ethel which is nowhere close to her name. It doesn't bother me because it will be something special between them.

Personally it doesn't bother me, I am having a son and naming him Tobias and a lot of people call him Toby. It doesn't really bother me what people want to call him as long as it's respectful and tastful, to me it's just them forming a bond with him. But if it bothers you, say something (: you are the mommy, if you don't take a stand then who will? Good luck!

If it's an obvious or common nickname for her name then most likely others will call her that as she gets older, and she may even like it more. So if it really bothers you then maybe you should talk to your husband about considering other names (that do have nicknames you like).

My mom deliberately named me Erin instead of Elizabeth because she hated all the nicknames Elizabeth has. But then I decided to go by my middle name anyway - reminder that this name will be your daughter's and it'll be up to her how to shorten or change it or whatever.  Names are important though, you should feel comfortable with your choice!

It's gonna happen whether you like it or not. And you'll have less control over it as she gets older and her friends decide what they call her. I'd try an get used to it if I were you and set on that name. We purposefully chose names with shortened versions and nicknames that we also like.

Na doesn't bother me my name is Natasha but ppl shorten my name to Tasha all the time. My daughter name is Amirah most ppl screw it up and say "amirror" we call her moo moo my dad calls her pooh pooh lol my whole family has nick names or names get shorten lol

I had a friend names Jacquelyn in high school and her mom HATED when anyone called her Jackie and I always wondered why she named her Jacquelyn when she hated the nickname?? I've tossed out a lot of names because I hated the nicknames and I know everyone is going to use a nickname so if I can't stand it I probably shouldn't name the baby that name lol. My husband and I have had to talk about names a couple times now because we agreed on a name and then one of us decided it wasn't good enough so if you have to find something new than just talk about it :)

I have a name that is shortened to Cait or Katie, but I go by Caitlin. I just politely, then firmly tell people not to shorten it.

Everyone's used to it now, but I did reject a bunch of kid names because I didn't like the associated nickname. We ended up with one that's okay in short form. If he wants to shorten he can without driving me nuts.

It's just a nickname, I don't think it would bother me.  Everyone is going to create nicknames for people, you will even have nicknames for her, so as long as it's nothing disrespectful, I wouldn't worry about it.  If you REALLY hate it though, just tell them you would like it if they called her by her name.

I don't think you are out of line... My daughters name is Kayle, pronounced "kale" however because we spelled it different than the veggie, my in laws tried to say "kay-Lee" and I flipped out.  I straight up told them to call her by her correct name!  My husband  and I also call Her our Kayle-bear as a nickname and when in laws tried to call her that I told them not to because it is something just between her, me and her daddy.  Sometimes you need to be straight forward with what you want and continue to correct them every time.  Hopefully they will start to respect your wishes sooner rather than later.

My mom's dad was always calling me Katie, which is NOT my name. It bugged my mom so much she just straight up told her dad to call me the correct name.
