Babies at a baby shower?

Question

My sister in law had a baby in January, and my mother thinks the baby should be left at home for my baby shower to not take attention from me. I wouldn't have thought of this, but it will be my first time home in 6 months and will only be home 6 days whereas everyone else can see each other year round. Anyone have any thoughts on whether the baby should stay home or not?

If I was asked to leave my baby at home to attend a baby shower I would just simply not attend, nor would I attend any other parties from the person who stated I could not bring my baby.

I think the baby should be allowed. Just personal opinion. I have had and been to showers with babies and they never take away from the person being honored.

Honestly, no they shouldn't stay home. You (I'm saying "you" in general and not directed towards you, personally lol!) are asking people to come to an event for your child but expect them to not bring theirs? I could understand if the baby shower was a high class event in a posh setting, however, how many of us are going to have fancy baby showers lol. In all honesty, I think it's rude to ask someone not to bring their child to a baby shower. Its a baby shower, with games and food and fun! I promise none of this is directed towards you, it's just in general!(: 
I know for me, personally, my baby shower is being held at a park specifically because people want to bring their babies and their toddlers. So while we celebrate, the little ones can swing and play. In all honesty, I don't think anyone can really steal the attention from the mommy-to-be, you're the reason everyone is there in the first place haha!

I think that's really really rude. If she's a mom it's obvious she knows that she has to give the mom to be all the attention at her shower, but that doesn't mean leaving her baby at home. Would you do that? 
Maybe ask other moms to bring their kids!

I think that's very rude to invite her and ask her not to bring the baby. It's one thing to not want children, like toddlers and kids young enough to be bored and not have anything to do, but it's just an infant.

There was a baby at my shower. She was my husbands distant cousin, I welcomed it. She was cute as heck. & I got to hold her. She didn't steal the show from me what so ever. She was asleep till after presents were open. I don't think it's a bad idea. It's sweet your mom is thinking of you tho. It's your day. Remember that.

I think that's a bad idea. My cousin brought her baby to mine and I had no issue with it. My feelings would be hurt if someone told
Me I couldn't bring my baby somewhere.

My MIL recently threw my SIL a baby shower where no children were invited.  It made sense for that situation - specifically that there would have been numerous kids and the event would no longer have been a ladies event. And, knowing that guest list, there were no children that did not have someone to watch the child while mom attended the shower, which may not always be the case for others.

Also, in my opinion, it is hard to draw a line that some children can attend and others cannot. What is the right line to draw between an infant and a toddler? I think having some kids invited but excluding others would lead to more hurt feelings than applying the same rule to everyone.

For mine, a lot of the Marine wives' husbands will have to work that weekend- mine included. I didn't realize when I set the date. Plus two are single mothers and one her husband works all weekends. 
I may get a babysitter for the kids and will have an area for them to play games and such. 
Sometimes, it just can't be avoided. I'd rather them come with their kid than not come at all.
