Is shooting (guns) actually a sport?

When I think of sports, I think of activities that require skill, strategy, focus, and athleticism. While shooting guns and/or hunting surely requires the first three, I'm on the fence about athleticism. I agree that it's a recreational activity, but that in itself doesn't qualify it as a sport (e.g., painting can be recreational but is probably not a sport). I don't really consider shooting a "sport" in the sense that basketball, track activities, gymnastics, volleyball, etc are. My husband disagrees with me. ;)
So, give me some perspective...all polite opinions are welcome. Is shooting things for recreation a sport?
