Should I leave him??

I've had my boyfriend in my life now for 8 years we also have a daughter together who is 7. Well he suffers from Bi polar and depression. Now I have been going through this with him for all 8 years. Recently though he's Been extra mean taking everything out on me. He also expects me to leave him alone for DAYS until his mood passes. He says things to me like I hate you and calls me names. I'm reaching my breaking point because I should be happy and I'm not right now... I'm a psych major so I know what these disorders do but I feel like my happiness is important to along with my daughters, he chooses not to be around us at all.. What should I do??

I just left the SAME EXACT situation... And i have a 6yr old son.. After a year i had to make a change. I pray he gets the help he need ... Yours nd mine

As much as we all want to fix those we love, we can't help them unless they want help. If he's willing to seek help and get meds that work better, I'd say stick it out. If he's not, I'm a firm believer in not sacrificing your own happiness for others, I'd leave.

I know it can be tough (my own son has been this way since the age of 2). They truly don't mean what they say, they just don't know how to handle all their emotions inside. I am hoping and praying my son improves by adulthood but the chances are slim.

It can be hard to deal with a person in your life like this. Ultimately it is your choice to stay or not. If you stay it is beneficial to mentally prepare yourself for this possibly happening off and on indefinitely. Hopefully he is getting the help he needs to lessen his symptoms. This is a tough and heartbreaking illness. It really sounds like you care though, just unsure of things at this time.

Heather is sounds like once one of his moods passes and he's in a better mental state u really need to talk to him about getting him some help with it u may need to arrange for someone to watch ur daughter and prepare for a blow up but be clam and stay collected even if he says some of the worse hateful mean things and gets angry he needs to know that u love him and u stand beside him but he also needs to see what this is doing to his daughter and u maybe have her write him a letter about how it makes her feel when he is in ones of his moods and have him read it he may seriously not understand what's happening during these times

You guys have a kid together. If you were to walk out you would have to deal with visitation, and being exes and having to do that is not usually pretty. Stick it out and see if his meds will help. But if it doesn't and you decide to walk away, don't expect a hassle free life like some people in here are saying you'd have. It can get really messy really fast. But ultimately, you have to decide if that will be worth it versus being abused and demeaned all of the time.

He is still taking his meds? My BF has BP and never acts like this, maybe he needs new meds, it is possible to become immune to one type, my BF realised this and was switched to another med.  he generally sounds quite mean to be fair probably more than his disorder is allowing. Don't put up with it BP or not, that excuse cant used for everything mean he says and does
