How to convince my mom?

I'm 18 and my boyfriend is 23. We have 7 months knowing each and one month dating. My mom doesn't want me to continue dating him because she says he's too old for me. She thinks I'm not prepared for having a relationship with someone older than me. Basically she's afraid of me losing my virginity. My mom's opinions is pretty important to me since she has always being my confidence and my all. But now, because of this, our relationship is worse every day. She wants me to break up with him and keeps arguing every day about this. This is not normal for me, we used to be best friends and we never argued before. I don't know what to do. I'm ready for having a serious relationship. But yes, I'm not ready for sex and I'm not planning on having sex with him by now. He knows this, he understands and doesn't want to impose anything.

Is it worth hurting your relationship with your mom for him? If he's worth it, then stay with him, if you don't think it is, then stop seeing him.

You're only a few years apart, and you're 18! She should count her lucky stars she bore such a upstanding daughter! I think you have your stuff together, and don't lose this guy thay seems ok just because she doesn't want to cut the umbilical cord yet. She's just being a mom, that's ok, but you're your own person. I assume you understand where she's coming from, trying to protect you, but you gotta learn the world on your own. She'll be upset, she's proven she'll whine and squeal about it, but you'll both get over it.

If your mom really loves you she will watch out for you and try to help you do whatever she thinks is best but that doesn't always mean she's right. I'm sure if you really like this guy and he's serious and understands you then she will support you with it you just need to come out and say "mom I know he's a couple years older but I like him a lot and he gets me and this is honestly what I want right now"

My mom tried to break up my ex and I. We dated anyway,  but I feel a lot of what both our mothers said to us affected our relationship. (His mother pretended to like me and my mother is just blunt haha she and my ex got along fine until we met his mother).

Your situation is a tad different.  Tell your mother she raised you right and you respect and love her and wouldn't want to disappoint her, but that you feel strongly about this guy. I think she's just afraid of her little bird stretching her wings.

But you need to communicate with both your bf and mom. Because both relationships will be affected.  I know from experience :(

That's not a huge age gap but really unless you're dead set on marrying this guy soon, just listen to your mom, honey. I know it sounds lame but I'm speaking from years and years of rebellious experience. It's not worth damaging your relationship with your mom. Please please please especially don't just get pissed at her and throw away your virginity at this boy just to lash out. Just listen to your mom. It will earn you a ton of respect. And if it turns out she was wrong about your relationship, I bet that she willbe able to see that and let you get back together. If she's a good mom she will admit when she's wrong. But you have to give her that chance. And give her the chance tha she could be right too, and saving you a world of heart ache. Just listen to her. Hindsight is 20/20. What will you regret more in 10 years? Breaking it off with a boy you've known less than a year? Or damaging a relationship with your mother? Who's still going to be there in 10 years?? Yup. Your mum.

You're 18 so its your decision. Thats not that big of a age gap. If you want to be with him, be with him, don't let anybody else tell you differently.

I don't think that's a big age gap. When I started dating my husband I was 18 and he was 23. Now we're 24 and 29 happily married.

If your happy with him stay with him. She should be happy your not dating some 30 year old or a guy who is like a parents worst nightmare all tated up an piercings. Be happy and tell her you are mature enough and he makes you happy and that its your decision who you will date and you would like her approval but that she needs to give this guy a chance.

Really listen to your mother.  She might be mistaken, and he truely wont impose anything, but moms are usually right (mine always is 😕).  See if you cannot come to a compromise with her.  Maybe you and your boyfriend spend more time at your house, so your mother can see what you see.  If he really is a great guy who is willing to wait that should not be to much to ask. 
But you are also 18.  So while your mom might be right, it is also healthy for you to make your own path at this point.  Regarless of what you do, try not to lose your friendship with your mother.  Trust me she loves you more then you know, and only wants the best for you.

If he knows u want to wait and respects that, then your mom should respect your decision. If you haven't told her your plans about not having sex yet, then you should. If she still tells u to break up with him, that's her problem. I love my mom too but he seems like a decent guy.. You are of age and can make your own decisions.. At least you're being smart about this.
