Are IVs really necessary?

Wondering how many have had a natural hospital birth without having an IV. Asked about this in another forum and was basically told I was being unwise because of possible emergency situations which I understand but I really want to know if what I'm asking is unreasonable? I have had 0 complications or concerns during my pregnancy and would like to let my body do its job with a ton of interventions. I've already decided to start looking into birth centers but I would love to have the natural hospital birth that I'm seeking. I will be moving to 1 of two places several hours from where I am now due to my husband's new job and I really want to start figuring out my options and what my insurance will cover. Currently 19+6
