The ovary that you ovulated that preggo eggo out of is currently the culprit for all the hormone production, you basically maintain a cyst on that ovary until the placenta develops and then it takes over the hormone production.  At your first ultrasound they'll probably show you that ovary.

I had a corpus Luteum cyst ( might still but I'm 13 weeks so it should be going away) and it caused some pretty bad psin on my left ovary, which is the ovary i ovulated from. It's a good thing to have as like PP said, it produces progesterone. Unfortunately they hurt like he**
