Dentist !!! Is it okay ??

I go this week to the dentist, to get a couple fillings.... I've heard many opinions on going to the dentist while pregnant, is it a bad thing to go ? Is it a do or don't ?!

I am a dentist and at our office we will see you any trimester for cleanings, but avoid X-rays and fluoride while pregnant. If you have a small cavity that won't be an issue during your pregnancy or need a crown or any cosmetic work we will wait til you deliver. If you have an issue that needs to be addressed during your pregnancy, we wait til the second trimester bc it's safest then. And if you  are in pain or have an infection you should be treated immediately, but we generally refer to a specialist such as an oral surgeon bc they are generally able to treat with less trauma and a better equipped for emergencies.

Yes, they actually reccomend going to the dentist during pregnancy, just let them know you're pregnant because they can't perform any work on you.

I just went! I told them when I went in. I had a cleaning. That's it. No X-rays or fluoride treatment. They encouraged me to come a bit more frequently because pregnant women are more susceptible to gum sensitivity and disease.

They won't do much in the first trimester,  but after that you can go and even get major work done

My dentist is ok with doing regular cleanings while pregnant. However any other work that requires them using Lidocaine, for deep cleaning or fillings or anything that needs a lot of numbing required me to be in my second trimester +. He also needed me to get a medical acknowledgement and release from my OB to be able to do any of the above. Just let your dentist office know your pregnant. When they take X-rays of your teeth they should also be using an X-ray shield that protects your belly. Good luck.
