Do you intervene when your kids hit each other?

I don't want to retype ☺ I realized after posting in another area that this is actually a very controversial topic.

As someone who suffered with depression,  low self esteem and a sleep disorder for years (because I was afraid to let my guard down and sleep as a child) thanks to the physical abuse I suffered at the hands of my sister, I wouldn't dismiss violence between children as 'kid stuff'. I think a parent should intervene and teach their children that violence is not acceptable and teach them better ways to deal with conflict.

It's our responsibility as parents to teach our kids we do not solve conflict with violence!!  My boys fight and I absolutely stop them from trying to clobber eachother!!

It depends. If I ever hit my sisters I was in big trouble and vice versa, but there was a time in Montana. 
My older sister was playing in the sandbox and this boy kept coming over and kicking down her castle or throwing sand in her face. (They were 4-6 if I remember correctly). 
The Boy's father was getting up to reprimand the boy but my dad stopped him. He told him to sit and watch. So they did.

The boy came over and pushed Shayne to the limit by kicking her toys and castle down again and tossing sand in her face so Shayne got the boy on the ground and kept his nose in the sand. When she let him up he ran crying to his (hysterically laughing) father. The boy stopped picking on her and actually had quite a few play dates after. 
There are times where I think it's okay to let your kid stand up for themselves, but to just hurt someone for the fun of it is wrong. We were never permitted to do that and got a swat on the bum if we did

Heyy, I am not a parent either, however despite being nineteen years old, I will with confidence say, as a parent she should intervene for sure! If they are playing and nothing is  serious then fair enough whatever call it kids stuff, but to the point where they are crying, in order to protect them as a responsible adult she should intervene. You should perhaps have a serious talk with her.

I don't have children but I will teach mine to never hit. Violence is never the answer. She won't brush it off when she has to make a trip to the ER for "kid stuff".

I think parents should teach their kids from the beginning to use their words and not their hands or feet. If you see it you correct it. End. Of. Story.

That's one of the biggest rules o had growing up. Do not hit each other, no matter what. I will enforce the same rule for my kids. I will not allow my kids to think that it's ok to hit each other, escpecially out of anger. Absolutely not. You should raise your kids to find different ways to take out their anger that won't hurt others or themselves. Don't pass off violent behavior as kid stuff. Kid stuff are jokes, pranks, even some yelling, but hitting is not one.

My kids are 3.5 years apart but my son is as big as my daughter who is older. They fight on occasion and sometimes I break it up sometimes, I don't. You as a parent arent always going to be there to protect them, so they need to learn to resolve their own conflicts - even if it is a physical altercation.
