Is this normal?

I just had my first IV last night and when I woke up this morning I had this red spot about an inch away from the needle hole. Is it normal? Sorry if it's a dumb question. I've just never had an IV before.

I'm a nurse. It looks like irritation from the tegaderm or tape. It's kinda hard to tell from the pic, but I think you'll be fine. Just keep it clean and maybe put some neosporin on it if you want.

Looks better than how mine was. When I got my iv I was bruised for weeks. I'm sure it's fine.

Yes. That's about how long the plastic tube is and also is that where the tape was? You could have a sensitivity to the tape and have your skin been irritated by it. That happens to me. When I had my two IVs in the whole area the IV tube in my vein was turned red for a couple days after they remove them.

I was allergic to the tape that held the iv in and got the same thing but it pretty much covered the whole inside of my elbow
