Mucous plug?

So I'm 37w 3d and this morning when I used the bathroom I noticed something small and redish in the toilet and when I wiped I noticed it was mucousy and redish. Could that have been my mucous plug? Or do I need to go to the hospital cause I was having some pains in my stomach for two days.

It's disgusting but Google mucous plug for comparison. The next thing to note is if it were bright red blood or dried brownish red blood. Red blood can be a sign of an actual problem & you should call your dr but brownish red is most likely from cervical changes like dilating & effacing. Your mucous plug discharging doesn't necessarily mean labor is near as it can regenerate itself!

I lost my mucus plug && I had my baby the same day. It wasn't that much that I lost but my doctor told me to go to the hospital because I was having pain in my stomach && sure enough I was 4 cm dilated

It may be what's called a 'show'? Cervix change can do it. When it's time, and you lose your plug, you'll know...there is LOADS!!!!
