Dark spotting?

My period is due today but for the past 2 days I have spotting black or dark brown and barely. The smell of just about everything makes me want to puke and my uterus feels... full? .. thick I don't know. Different. Today the spotting picked up a little more maybe to about a tsp or 2 all day.. I've convinced myself that about 3 years was long enough to keep trying for the sake of my sanity so we haven't been trying for a while and honestly with everything going on in my life right now I would be. .. not upset but like "jeeez now?!" I Googled it but of course according to Google I'm dying so. Any ideas?
