American ladies, what English words have you heard that mean something different to you?

I love comparing the American usage of words to the Brits, my favourite is "Fanny" apparently that's your butt, but to the Brits that out vagina, or I could be wrong, so please let's compare different words, I love your use of words

pants (trousers in the UK)
elevator (lift in the UK)
cell phone (mobile phone)
trash/garbage (rubbish)
mail (post)
soccer (football)
couch (sofa)
purse (bag)
hood (bonnet)

When people say they "fell pregnant" meaning they are now pregnant/got pregnant. I'll my mind I'm seriously picturing some girl walking along and falling on a man and BAM! It just happens. Now she has "fallen pregnant". 😂😂

Even state to state in america it can get weird. I grew up in texas, and have since lived in upstate ny, florida, and boston.

Kinky in ny =cool. In texas it means sexual toys, s&m play, that kind of thing.

Coke in texas=any soda. "Can i have a coke?" - "sure, what kind?" -"i'll have sprite."

Wicked in boston = cool.

Then there's the ability to know the proper usage of ya'll and all ya'll.
Ya'll is a group of ppl but not necessarily everyone present.
All ya'll =everyone in a group of ppl.

I love language.

Having lived in the USA a few years and now the UK - those are the few that popped into my head without thinking too much 😉

A lift. I think in England it means elevator. But in the US it would be like getting a ride like in a taxi or friends car.  I am sure there are tons of other I just can't think of anymore right now.

Biscuits in the UK are cookies in the US. Our French fries are chips in the UK. Coriander to you is cilantro here. Frosting here is icing in the UK.

Oh my favourite for the Americans is "Fossit" it's "Tap" to the Brits! Oh and how you pronounce aluminium, I think you pronounce it like alooominim, phonetically speaking and spelling.  Really love your use of words.
