Perineal massage, did it work for you?

Hey ladies, 
So I am will to try anything that will help me through childbirth... Being cut  or tearing is something that makes me really cringe at the thought of it.  Have any of your ladies done the perineal massage and feel like it was a waste of time, or vise versa, you did them and you had great results in child birth? Thanks!!!

I did not do it before birth but the nurse and the doctor did it the whole time I was pushing and I believe that is the reason I didn't rip or have major tears!

I think it's different for everyone. Some women have naturally "stretchy" vaginal openings and some women don't. some women don't have to do anything to help themselves and they're so blessed! (We're all blessed... We're pregnant!!) I happen to have a very sensitive perenium that hurts with simple sex, so I assume it could get pretty irritated when a big ole baby is trying to get through. That's why I chose to do it and we started it early, at 32 weeks. My husband has been rubbing and stretching (using gloves because the finger nails have bacteria and they also scratch) with almond and coconut oil with a drop of lavender essential oil. I'm 39 weeks now and I have definitely noticed a difference (especially with sex- hallelujah!). I'll try to remember to update you and let you know how it worked for me.

I didn't do it for my first my but my midwife/OB user mineral oil and massaged it to whole time I was in labor. For me it felt soothing and I did not tear at all. My daughter was 7lbs 6oz. Recovery was fairly easy as well bc I had no tears or stitches. I plan on doing it for baby 2 due July. I have asked DH to do this during labor and possibly the first few weeks prior to delivery. He was a little confused but said "ok". He had never heard of it so I think he was surprised that this is a "thing". 😂

I am trying it now although I hate it! It's painful and I find it stressful having my SO do it but I am also willing to try anything! We did a hypno birthing course and everyone swore by it.

Thanks girls, comments have been helpful!  I'm 34 weeks and totally forgot that I'm probably not going to be able to do it to myself bc of reaching lol.... My husband is going to laugh today at this one :) I can't just picture him "you want me to do what?!!??!" Lol

I didn't do it and has a minor tear. Just a few stitches and it was fine. I totally forgot about this subject, though!

Worked for me! Was unpleasant, but no stitching. Doing it second time when I get closer to the due date.

I didn't do it and I didn't have any tears at all. Recovery has been super easy except for the bleeding which just stopped (I'm 6 week pp).

My OB nurse did it during my labor with my 2nd and it worked! I'm going to request my OB nurse teach my DH during labor this time😊
