When to start pumping?

Hey everyone, my daughter is just over a week old and I was wondering when you guys started to pump your breastmilk? I'm not going back to work anytime soon and just wanted to know your stories before I even make a decision to start pumping.

I had to start pumping right away because of engorgement. My milk came in fast and furious. It's up to you, just know that once you start pumping that sends a signal to your boobs to start producing more!

I pumped maybe 3 days after I got home. I had to get the milk out it was painful plus I had to go to classes to take tests. I have no problems with breastfeeding or pumping. I was strictly pumping at first, I'm now back breastfeeding and I pump when we go out and I don't want to exactly pull out a boob.

Technically you should wait until your milk supply is established...at least 6 weeks...however if you're pumping to return to work, you can start whenever but just be sure to pump at the same time daily to avoid engorgement

I started pumping about a week after DD was born, but that was because I got a post delivery infection and was hospitalized for two days. I wanted my LO to have breastmilk still, but didn't want her staying with me in the hospital so I pumped and pumped and hubby would visit and bring home the milk for her feedings. If I remember correctly, I would get about 2-3 oz per breast at that point. After I came home, though, I went back to EBF. Since then I only pump to help with engorgement (mostly at night) or if I ever felt my supply was getting low (maybe felt that once so far). LO is 8 weeks now.

I started as soon as mine came in bc of engorgement n started storing right away! Take advantage now if u can

I waited about six weeks. We didn't have a need to pump before then. If we did, I would have definitely pumped.
