Is this safe to use as a bassinet? I thought I read it somewhere that someone used it and it was fine.

I would say yes until the of course they out grow it or can turn over on their own.

Probably only in the 2nd position, since it appears that seems to be what it was made for....but it also says "napper" so maybe it's only intended for brief sleeps.

This product has so many bad reviews on it. Some children actually have to wear helmets now, because their heads changed shape while using this particular bassinet to sleep in. I was interested in it at first, but there is no way I'm getting it now.
