Step or no?

When my husband and I got together his son was 3yo. I've been in his life since then, doing everything motherly for him as well as our daughter we have together. I refer to him as my son. But sometimes I have to say step son because his mother is around or just explaining our relationship. What do you step parents call your children?

My step dad has referred to me as his daughter since he married my mom. I've never once heard him tell anyone otherwise. I call him my dad and only explain if it seems necessary.

My brother and I weren't aware that our older two sisters were our half sisters until we were about 14 ish. My dad has always loved them and cared for them as his own since they were 2 & 4.

Depends upon the day of the week a day how he is acting. Overall I refer to him as my son- he is 17 and I've been his mom for over 5 years. Taking care of him when he would call his mom 20 times in a row and she wouldn't answer or call him back for weeks. Hugged him when the first little girl broke his heart when he was 13. I cut his hair and help him pick out what to wear on dates... He's my kid...

My stepdad calls me his daughter. I don't care personally.

I meant just child not SOs child. He's been in my daughters life since before she was even born. Technically she would be his "step child" but she is his.period. He is all she knows.

I have three from a previous he has one from a previous we have one together some times when asked home many kids you got we say together we got 5 kids

I say her kids because none of them are his. And even though he "takes care" of them she doesn't even say his kids. It's always "my kid." But he says they're his. But she doesn't see it that way either lol.

My mom used to call my half sisters (my dads kids) her children and their mother was okay with it. And they called her mom. She was like a second mom to them.

My stepmom only ever explained that I was a stepchild if someone commented on how much we looked alike. She liked to shock them.
