Is a College education worth it?

Question

Would you say that a college degree is worth it? Yes or no and why? As a woman with a Bachelor's I would have to say that my degree is useless now a days unless I go to graduate school which is what I'm planning on. Thanks!

I think for some people it's worth it. For me, it's not. There was nothing I was interested in and it would have been a waste of time for me to attend. It's not like they offer home ec anyway.

It depend on your field. I could be at one of my jobs with just my bachelors but I wouldn't get to be as involved as I am or paid as well. To be my own boss in my other job, my phd was needed and I'm so glad I stuck to it.

I think it is only because nowadays most good jobs require a college degree. They only require one and are able to require them because everyone goes to college. A high school degree used to be worth more when college wasn't a thing everyone felt they should do. 
If you want to go into the hard sciences, math, or engineering then it makes sense but for most of the other degrees I really don't understand why people go to college for them. Unless of course you want to go on to become a teacher or lawyer. 
I think the UK is set up a little better where an undergraduate degree actually prepares you for jobs but I'm not really sure. 
Frankly, I think the whole education system is pretty fucked up.

Yes college helps. I feel like a bachelor degree is like a High school diploma... Just expected even if not related. The secret people don't seem to know is there are degrees that can get you directly to a job or experiences you can take advantage of that make you more likely to get hired. Also if none if those interest you its better to pick a trade like ultrasound tech...dental hygienist... Stuff that don't take forever but pay well! I ended up with a Masters and specialist in education... I would have done differently if I knew what I know now.

I think school is what you make it. If you go to college and coast through, you might be more marketable for some jobs but it might not be worth the loans. On the other hand if you dive in, get involved, talk to you faculty, immerse yourself etc. you could have a life changing time. Even if you aren't gunning for an epic career, college can open your mind in ways you wouldn't imagine. If you are hoping to get a good job college can also be essential, depending on what you want to do (e.g., engineering, medicine, natural sciences). Sure you learn a lot going through life and self studying, but for some content-heavy fields it is nice to get in, get assessed to make sure you know it, and get out into the world.

I say yes for most jobs they are necessary unless you want to do manual labor in a factory or something to that effect. (at least that's the case in the area I live in; small town). I guess it mostly depends on what the degree is in.
