Crib vs convertible crib?

Question

Im a FTM and overwhelmed by all the decisions that go into the nursery!  I'm trying to decide if it is worth the money to buy a convertible crib that transitions into a toddler bed and then full-size bed, or if I should just buy a regular crib?  Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

We have a convertible crib and used it as a crib and toddler bed with my son, but we never used it as a full size. Now I'm pregnant and it's back to a crib. We'll use it as a toddler bed as well, and since this is our last baby we'll finally make it into a full size. It will work out for us but I can see how it isn't always practical.

We had a convertible crib and ended up buying a toddler bed instead. The crib was to high off the ground so I wasn't comfortable with it. If you look at the convertibles, look how low the lowest slot is to see if you like the hieght for your toddler. I never thought to check before hand, and was disappointed at how high mine stood. Not all cribs are like that though, my mil has a convertible that is just right.

It depends how close you have children together. For example if you are going to have them far enough apart the toddler version of it gets used. Than yes! But if you have kids close together where your going to be taking one out of the crib and than putting one right in than the convertible isn't really going to be all helpful. My son is 1.5 and he has been in his toddler version of his crib for awhile I am expecting and he will be about two by the time the baby comes before we need the crib again so I'd say it got some good use out of it but that's just me. I don't like the strictly crib beds

We have two convertible cribs, one awaiting the arrival of baby #3 and one is being used as a toddler bed for our 2 1/2 year old. Our boys, 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 have been sharing a room since December. Our oldest is in an IKEA bed. I like the convertible because I think it will keep us from having to buy 3 or 4 beds per kiddo, just a new mattress.

I've caught a cotBed purely for the cost - I got mine second hand and like other ladies have said its all about what you want to use it for and in some respect I guess space ... We have a small apartment so a convertible bed is ideal for our space until we eventually have number 2 and move to somewhere bigger :)

I have a convertible crib. Ended up getting a free racecar bed so never converted further than toddler bed. Now with my second he'll be moving from the crib to something else because I'm expecting in October. Hopefully this time I'll be lucky enough to use it through all stages! If you think you might want some cute toddler bed or get something larger once their older....just get a regular one, but the option is nice
