Just communicate.  And don't use 50shades of grey as a jumping off point.  Because if you want to be the sub you don't want your partner to be a Dom like Christian Grey.  Try finding local classes in what you are interested in (join fetlife.com and look up events)  and suggest you and your partner attend

My SO and I are very into the bdsm scene. It's so much fun going to the kink stores together and picking out toys. If you're worried yours won't be up to it maybe bring it up casually, like your friend was telling you about this crazy sex act, what does he think of the sound of it? If he seems open to at least learning more go on from there. Communication is extremely important to getting what both of you want in the bedroom, and I think even more so when you add kinky things into the mix.

I was in the lifestyle, but after experimenting for a while, my partner has learned that he only enjoys small bits of it. Oh, well - the communication was open and honest and he did try multiple things. I respect that.

Now we mostly keep it in the bedroom. :)
