Yes, there are studies done that it lowers the risk of SIDS because a portion of their brain is constantly at work with the sucking motion.

I never used a pacifier & my son never sucked his thumb. I never had issues with overfeeding & we stuck to the traditional let them cry themselves to sleep (after you've checked they are ok). There really are worse things for your child than them learning to self soothe and while people may stare as you walk through the shopping mall with a tired & crying infant in a pram, who cares!!

Now if you want to use a pacifier that is your parental choice and while it may sound like I frown upon them, please do not take it that way. I just got over people telling me how stupid I was for NOT using one or that I was somehow depriving my child for not giving him one. Dealing with the same thing again this time around and am so very over the unsolicited 'advice'.

I tried with my son and he never liked it at all so I didn't bother with it anymore,I'm glad I did though I see some stuck to that thing at 3yrs old that's just crazy,I didn't want that happening with my son.I won't be using one with my daughter either no need to, but honestly to each is own if you want to its your child do what u think is best.

Idk..my son whose 6 now has me afraid to offer the pacifier. He gotten so attached to having one that he'd take them from his baby cousins when he was 4 yrs old. He'd get so upset when i took it from him. I sucked my thumb until i was 11 so I understand that oral fixation. Now that im expecting I dont want to introduce the pacifier 😅

Only for a short amount of time if I have to. If rather not give the baby one, but it might happen. I can't stand to se a toddler sucking on a pacifier.

I am not going to. Her mother has had a plethora of ear issues and binkys and sucking the thumb only makes the situation worse.

I had to in the hospital. She wanted to suck but was getting mad cause she wasn't hungry blah blah. No nipple confusion, now she doesn't like the binky.
