Light napper

Anyone else have a baby that just won't nap during the day? My LO is such a light sleeper. Usually she has one good nap (2 hours if I'm really lucky) and maybe 2 more that are usually 45 min long. I usually complain about this but today her naps were 20 minutes long. She had 3 of those. By the end of the day, she was so tired she cried for nearly an hour before she would settle for sleep. I'm hoping it was just a bad day. Any ideas on how to cope or get her to rest for longer period during the day?

It's probably just an off day. My daughter does the 2 hour nap and then a few 40minute ones but we had a bad day yesterday for some reason. Back on track today! Guess it's just one of those things, we can't expect to predict babies lol :)

How is your little one now? Mine had a good day Friday and an awesome sleeping day yesterday. Today she is right on track for a good day as well.

One of my twins was like this and has just started getting better in the last few weeks- around 14 weeks.  We just tried to be consistent in putting her down as soon as she was drowsy, no more than 1-2 hours of wakefulness. If she woke, pacifier to see if she would go back to sleep. Now she's napping for an hour 4-5 times a day, unfortunately just at opposite times as her sister!

My little guy sleeps 12 hours a night straight and doesn't sleep during the day lol, but I don't mind coz he's happy and cheerful so it's bearable! He may occasionally nod off for 10 mins a couple times a day but that's it. He's 13 weeks today.

Yeah luckily he keeps himself entertained most of the time haha but yeah he's determined to keep his little eyes open and not miss a single thing going on 😂😑

I would so struggle to entertain such a young baby for 12 hours lol. My girly goes 10/12 hours at night but will still have a total of 4 hours naps in the day lol

I actually spoke to a pediatric sleep specialist about this last week. Babies NEED sleep during the day. Sleep is when they grow. Babies this small should only be awake a max of 1.5-2 hours at a time. I understand that's easier said than done. Short naps are a developmental thing. Day sleep is harder to master than night sleep and a lot of babies have trouble staying asleep after one sleep cycle. Unfortunately it's something many of them go through. I am dealing with this too. I started giving my son a couple of ounces of chamomile tea mixed with formula in his night bottles and this has helped some. If you're bfing I've heard that you drinking the chamomile works too.

You think if I drink the chamomile tea during the day it'll help her nap? I'm willing to try anything to have her bulk her naps.

I agree. She's so fiesta if she doesn't sleep during the day. I think she's too young to skip naps altogether. I spoke with her nurse and she told me she may just be a quick napper and as long as she's taking 3-4 of these short naps its shouldn't be a problem. I'd rather her bulk them.

My baby is 12 weeks tomorrow and only naps during the day for about 30 minutes at a time and has done that for a few weeks now, he then sleeps through the night, sometimes 12 hours... I just think each baby has their own way of doing things :) also I recommend keeping the bed/cot just for nighttime sleeps and use something different for naps like a bouncer/pram/lap... I found this really helps them sleep through as they know the difference then between nap and nighttime sleep :)

I have to add we do routines- feed, change, swaddle, bed for naps and bath, change, feed, swaddle for night time. I try to get her down between 6-7:30 depending on her last nap. She is 12 weeks old.
