What about the mattress?

Question

So my mom bought the crib for my baby but didn't mention anything about buying a mattress. I know it is a lot but do I ask her to buy the mattress as well? Or do I just put it on my registry and buy it myself if no one else does? 
It seems to be all she wants to buy is clothes for her grand baby. But I don't want to seem ungrateful for what she has bought.

A crib is already a huge gift. The mattress will cost almost nothing in comparison. I say put it on the registry and if someone gets it then great, if not, it won't cost you much.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. It has helped me reach a decision as to what to do. For those of you asking the price of the mattress and why the price is so high is because it is a two stage mattress that my daughter will be able to use for at least 4 years old or until she is in a "big girl" bed.

You can get a crib mattress from ikea for $65, don't ask her for the mattress, I think it will come off as greedy when you are actually very grateful.

You can get a decent mattress for under $100, and I agree that a crib alone was a huge cost/gift. You could totally put it on your registry, but from other baby shower posts people tend to go rogue and not follow it.

I understand what your saying because it would be awkward if she bought you a mattress and then you ended up with two or something. I like to know what's going on so I can plan so I don't like surprise gifts like that. I would just tell her that you plan on buying it or that you plan on putting it on your registry so that your other in laws or parents don't feel left out of the big gift buying. Also I bought the two stage too and I love it. You should get the item you want and the one you feel comfortable with. There's nothing wrong with getting something to last!

Put it on your registry...I wouldn't want to make her pay for two big purchases...if you don't get it for your shower use the gift cards...they can be expensive so start saving!
