What do you honestly think of tattoos?

I have both my upper arms covered in tattoos, actually half sleeves. Do you think it's acceptable? I'm 26 years old, have a great job and home.... I'm starting to wonder if I made the wrong decision on the tattoos. I love them but everywhere I go, people stare. The are not poorly done, they are done by a very well known and talented artist.
