Cervix Dialating?!?

Question

I went into triage today because of some cramping, back pain, and cervix pain with some leakage. They checked my cervix and the doctor said she could fit her finger tip but then proceeded to say it was closed. I'm very confused because I thought the tip of your finger meant you were 1cm?

I have the same thing, my ob explained that she could wriggle it a little open and fit a fingertip in but not all the way, that it was only halfway open so technically even though something is happening its still considered closed,

I am going thru this now. It's like a sharp stabbing pain in the cervix? I've got my midwife apt tomorrow and will be telling her. But I'm not sure why she could get a finger in but then say it was closed? 1 finger usually is about 1cm
