No ultrasound until 20wks??!? Help

It might just be me, and I'm also a FTM, but my doctor won't do an ultrasound until I'm 20 weeks. There is no way in hell I can go 14 more weeks and not see my baby. How do I get around this???

I'm 23 weeks. I've had 4 ultrasounds. Not because I wanted them but because of problems. I have another next week. Be thankful everything is going smooth for you that you don't need them on a regular basis. Also if you are dying to see them and can't wait most states have private places you can pay to do an ultrasound.

That's pretty standard unless you're high risk. Some doc's will do an early scan to get an accurate due date but some docs don't. Especially if you know your last period date, there's no reason to. I had a dating scan cause my cycles were wacky and then one again at 20 weeks. Wont get another one unless something seems off.

It's not negligence or laziness on the doctor's case. They have to justify everything to the insurance companies and an early scan is not usually necessary.

If the doctor is following their code of conduct they shouldn't do anything that isn't medically necessary. So if there is no indication that something is wrong with you or the baby then there is no reason to do a sono other than the 20 week check. If you want more sonograms and they aren't medically necessary then a sono clinic where you pay out of your pocket is the best option.

Go to another doc. They should do a dating scan and to check on things by mid of 1st trimester.

If they won't give you an ultrasound before 20 weeks. They're gonna fuck you over like my doctors did... My old doctor gave me an ultrasound at 19 weeks 3 days. Said everything looked fine so they don't have to do another ultrasound my entire pregnancy. I switched doctors because I didn't want to deliver at the hospital they wanted me to deliver at & they refused to give me another ultrasound. My new doctor automatically got me an ultrasound. They found out I needed to be in high risk. My baby is measuring smaller than normal (6%) my fluid level is at a 7 when it should be at a 15. The baby's cord blood flow is at a 3.5 when it should be below a 3. I'm also at high risk for preeclampsia & have to see a high risk doctor twice a week & my normal midwife every two weeks. I'm 34 weeks right now & they said if I didn't switch doctors, my child would have died (stillbirth)... Also I have 2-3 weeks until she's born... 😁

You can go to a sonography clinic and pay out of pocket.  Some can be pretty reasonable.

My doctor does the same thing. I went to an elective place for a 13 week ultrasound. It was $50 and totally worth it.

The other ladies are correct.. typically you will have a u/s to confirm and/or "date" the pregnancy in the first Tri and your anatomy scan around the 20 week mark. Unless something pops up in the interim that makes you a higher risk, you won't have any others unless you pay a private company.

If I was you n this is just me ide go to the er n complain of stomache pressure n pain they will most likely to a sono!
