Go Set A Watchman

Buddy🐠👻🔺ஷொ • Use to hold thoughtful conversation, now I post memes.

Tuesday, the sequel to Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird comes out. It is set in the 1950s and goes over Brown v. Board of Education and race relations in the 1950s. I think that it is interesting timing for this book to be released considering everything that is going on in the world today. I know I am looking forward to reading this novel and I was curious to see if anyone else was interested as well. Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or not, but To Kill A Mockingbird was a very controversial story, and this one seems like it's not going to shy away from controversy as well.

I wanted to point out that GSAW was released today, and our brand new Glow "Book Club" has it listed as one of the books you can join in on.   Yes, this was a shameless promotion. 😎

Wait, didn't this come out in like 1960 or something? The author is still alive??

I've heard that too Nicole! It's a sketchy situation.

Apparently she also has a disorder that makes her not always lucid so it was controversial that it has even been published. They aren't sure if it is her care givers doing for more $$ or hers.

Yeah, I'm getting the Kindle version. I've been looking for a good summer read and this is it.

Apparently Atticus is racist in this new book. Which is... weird.

Supposedly this was the original version. and TKAMB is the rewrite. In regards to Atticus, I think it is a matter of justice vs what one believes. Like what happened in the first book was unjust but maybe that didn't mean he fully accepted black Americans. Regardless, I will be reading.

I'll probably read it too, but it is disappointing. I wanna know why she wrote it like that! Or why she didn't revise it after writing to KAMB and his character being different in that one.

I read that article and it is very disappointing to me. Atticus has always been my one of my favorite book characters. Ever. And this *almost* makes me not want to read it. But alas I am a book nerd and I will be reading it. I already have it preordered lol!

Oh wow! There has been very small publicity for this book. The major news about the release of the book is whether or not Harper Lee wanted to publish this novel and if she's even aware of or can she remember what she wrote. Apparently this was her original book and her editor wanted her to change it and that's how she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird.

I don't know if it'll live up to TKAMB because it's such an iconic well known book but she's an excellent writer so I'm going to read it anyway. It is liable to be a big deal considering the timing of the release like you said, but she's always done a commendable job with racial issues in my opinion

Me either. From what I've read about it so far, it seems like it will be an excellent read!
