Menstrual cups!!

I am going camping in a week and I know I will be starting my period. I was thinking maybe I should give soft cup a try!! I just have a few questions first. Would I be able to put it in before my period starts just in case? Do they do well with swimming? Are the disposable ones just as good, as I don't think there will be a sink around.  Are they even good for someone with heavy periods? Last but not least, they say you can have sex with them in but from anyone's experiences does that really even work? If anyone could get back to me with any of my questions that would be great!
