Natural birth or epidural?

I'm 22 weeks and I've really started thinking about my birth plan. I've read a lot about how the epidural can cause back problems after recieving it. Also how you can't feel your legs for a while afterwards. I would love to feel my son being born but I'm scared I won't be able to handle the pain. Thanks in advance

I had an epidural and was up walking soon after. I didn't feel the pain, but I definitely felt my daughter coming out. With this next baby I'll be getting an epidural again. I was able to relax while in labor and actually enjoyed it rather than be in pain every few minutes. End of the day it's your choice! Don't let people make you feel bad for having or not having an epidural. You'll know what the best choice is for you and your baby when you are experiencing labor.

You'll be able to handle the pain. It's what our bodies are made to handle. No one ever died from pain.

My natural birth is one of my proudest moments and made me feel so amazing and empowered. I'm sure all healthy births make moms feel that way, but I wouldn't have changed a thing even though it was very long and obviously hard work.

I have had an epidural with all four of my deliveries. I could walk within 30 mins at the most after three of them, I hemoragged after my fourth delivery and was stuck in a bed for 24 hours. I haven't had any back pain after and I for sure still felt every one of my children as the exited my body.

I loved my epi, and I plan on having one this time around. The worst part about it were the other moms that in a way put me down for getting it. But it was wonderful after feeling the contractions it was a gift from god, I did still feel my son come out though. And I was walking in no time and haven't had a issue with my back at all.

Your choice - and don't let anyone make you feel bad no matter what you choose.  Either way, allow room for flexibility.  That way you won't feel like your "failed" either way.  My plan is to see how it goes!  You might check out "Expecting Better" - great book and she gives her realistic birth plan in it.
