Crib bumper? Yes or no?

Hi! I am just curious what other moms, and moms to be have to say about crib bumpers, as I am reading the are not recommended. I am leaning towards no bumper- but have been getting comments from friends and family that I should get one. Thanks!

I just read in Baby Bargains they don't recommend them bc they can cause suffocation. The city of Chicago even became the first city in the U.S. to outright ban them!

They make mesh ones which are good BC once baby start moving around they sometimes get their little arms or legs stuck between the crib bar's.

I think after the baby can roll over they increase the risk of suffocation. You can buy breathable ones though if you like the look but don't want to take the risk :)

No bumper for either of my pregnancies. My son liked to shove his face against the side of the bassinet and no matter what I did he wouldn't stop doing it so he was moved to the crib and I never put the bumper on because he kept pushing his face into the bars too. He still does it now with his loft bed and he's almost 6.

Everyone feels differently about them. I had a cousin who got his leg stick on there when he was 8 months old. I had a bumper with my first child and will will with my second! Just make sure it's tied securely on the crib & if you find any issues with your baby and the bumper you can remove it.... My daughter never moved enough to go near it and when she could crawl she didn't even mess with it but I also never left her in the crib for any other reason then to sleep
