Unexpected sex timing advice from OB

I went to the OB last week for a "pre-conception" consultation. She said something interesting that I never heard before but thought I'd pass on:
In your 40s, you should have sex at least every other day the week BEFORE conception, so that the sperm are hanging out waiting in your Fallopian tubes when the egg arrives. That's because as you age, your eggs don't survive as long as they used to, but sperm live 5 days in your uterus. So you want the sperm in position already.
She also said not to bother having sex the day of ovulation because your cervical mucus will be too thick to get through anyway.
Anyone else ever heard this before? The first part was confirmed by a friend who is an OB as well.
