Mid cycle bleeding...

When do you count mid cycle bleeding as a period? My last full period was June 23, on July 12-16 I had light bleeding/spotting that started as pink and quickly turned brown. I should have started my regular period a week ago today and have yet to start. I am having breast pain and increased cm but if that mid cycle bleeding was a period that could mean I'm ovulating now (I never have EWCM) although I have yet to have a positive opk. I have tested for pregnancy multiple times and when I had people tweak the tests they could usually pull a line but the lines aren't getting dark enough to see plainly without tweaking, so I don't think I am actually pregnant. Should I assume the bleeding was a period and wait for the next or what would you ladies to if you were in this situation? TIA!
