Midwife or OB-Gyn?

Deciding if I want a midwife or doctor. I had the same doctor through out all other pregnancies but he never delivered my baby. It was always someone else or some nurse. Want something more intimate this time around.

I'm confused, what are we voting on? Should you go with a midwife? Or should you stick with an OB? The poll isn't clear.

As far as which one to go with, it's completely up to you! If you're low risk, there's no problems at all going with a midwife. I wanted an OB but that's my own preference.

A midwife will refer you to an OB if you end up needing one.

People who prefer midwives will often bad mouth OBs and people who prefer OBs will often bad mouth midwives...which is just stupid. They both do the same jobs, just in different ways.

If you decide to use a midwife make sure you are going to a certified nurse midwife (CNM) not a certified professional midwife (CPM) because a CPM is just a certificate with no educational background in nursing whereas a CNM has a bachelor's and masters degree in nursing, so they can recognize issues during the process much easier and they have the training, education, and the ability to do something about the issue. Also, a CNM can prescribe medication if it's needed.

I've seen both during my pregnancy. I normally see an OB but if she's booked or out of the office I see a midwife. They all are pretty consistent in their practices so I can't really tell the difference. My favorite personality wise has been a midwife. It's really personal preference.

My OB is also registered as a midwife so I'm not sure which is better since I'm getting 2 in 1.

I'm seeing a midwife and she's great. I love her. She works at the hospital and will deliver at the hospital...the only thing this means is that if you start having any problems, she might get assistance from a doctor. Good luck!

Where I live you see the midwife then only see a consultant if there is a health need for the mum or the baby, and then you still see the midwife more
