First year college student

I'm a new student at long beach city community college and I start school on the 24th. I applied for financial aid and received it. Today I got a card in the mail from higher one. The school partnered with higher one for refunds.  I never had a debit card or a credit card and don't really know much about banking. They give the option of using the card or having the funds transferred to another card. I just really would like the opinion from other students. Would it be risky to accept the card? Or should I go ahead and transfer the funds to another account? Have your school ever sent you a card in the mail to use for school fees?
