I'm glad my story has helped! I wanted to write it as I remember how terribly nervous and scared I was before having my daughter Here's a photo I took today of Charlotte, she gave me her first real smile at 6 weeks and 2 days old!
Induction story from a young mother.
My name is Leia, I am 22 years old from the UK. I was induced at 41w 6d, after having a lot of false labour contractions for the final 4 weeks of pregnancy. Before I went into hospital I was PETRIFIED, a nervous wreck, I'm an absolute whimp when it comes to pain. The midwife was amazing, she explained every thing to me in great detail and reassured me whenever I got myself into a state. A pessary was inserted that lunchtime (1pm) and two hours later I started getting light contractions, they were regular but weren't really increasing in strength, but eventually I ended up crying for some pain relief after six long hours of the pain, and trying to have a warm bath, they gave me a shot of pethadine, and I went to sleep, it was great! The next day, things appeared to of slowed right down, the pessary was taken out 24 hours after being inserted and I was examined, I went from being firm, long and closed to 2cm dilated, softer but still long,!/9 they gave me one dose of the gel. I was beginning to think the gel had failed, but five Hours later (at about 6PM)the contractions started up again and they steadily got stronger, it was about time to have another dose of gel, the midwife first examined me to check if things had progressed. As she was examining me, my waters went! It turned out I was at 4cm's dilated, so I was taken over to the delivery suite! The contractions got more and more intense, I tried the gas and air but I didn't like it! And me being desperate, I ipted for the epidural. The anaesthetist was brilliant, she was calm and did a fantastic job with everything from explaining the procedure to actually doing it! Once the epidural kicked in, I relaxed, I even had a little snooze! I was examined not long after it kicked in, I was 6cm dilated! I had another snooze and woke up again at 6am for another examination to find I was progressing steadily. By 10am I was fully dilated! But didn't start pushing until 11am. After pushing for an hour and a half, the midwife had the doctors in to give us some help. After the use of forceps, my beautiful baby girl was born at 1:27pm, 27th June 2015 weighing 6lb 4oz.
Every ounce of pain was worth it. If you're an anxious mum to be reading this, then please remember that everyone's stories are different one way or another, do not let other people push you into doing something you're uncomfortable with, If you want to take meds while giving birth then do it! If not, then don't! You will completely ace this, if I can do it, so can you! Your baby and your body knows what to do.
I look at my daughter and know that everything I everything I ever went through was totally worth it.
