Since Paragard, PMS is worse?

Hey ladies. I got Paragard 3 months ago so it's the first time I have not been on a hormonal birth control for 20 years. I love it but I notice that a week before my period I feel absolutely terrible. Like I'm coming down with the flu. I'm assuming this is what PMS feels like since I don't remember what it was like before I went on BC in my teens. Anybody else experience this?

Not only have I noticed that my PMS symptoms are worse I found that my cramps almost have like a burning pain with it where the IUD is and I have a couple days of spotting before my period even starts. Does anyone else have that?

I've found that the Paragard, because of the lack of hormones = full-force hardcore period symptoms. Cramping, tender breasts, pms, the works. It does get better with time. I'm six months in and finally returning to a more normal cycle and less horrible symptoms. Good luck!

I just hit the 4th year mark with mine and bad news---my symptoms are still gradually worsening. I never used to have cramps and now for the day before my period, I get cramps so bad in my abdomen that I desperately want to gouge out my internal lady organs. I figure when I'm ready to have kids, adoption is always an option! Hahaha

I have had paragard for two years and my cramps are worse then before but my pms is better then when I had hormones in birth control.

I've had my para guard for about 4 months now and I have to agree. I feel terrible about a week before the first day of my period. I'd also been on a hormonal method for three years prior to the paraguard. I agree, either it makes pms worse, or I just forget what it's like to pms! Lol.

Ive had paraguard for 4 months, and I definitely notice significant PMS symptoms - more than what I experienced previously with or without hormonal contraceptives. That said, I do think it will decrease and normalize over time. My doctor set the expectation that his may take at least 6 months, but I've seen users on here report improvement after a year. I'm prepared to give it over a year before I consider any side effects to be set in stone. Also, as counter-intuitive as it may seem, I find that exercise helps a lot. It might take a little mental toughness to tear myself from the heating pad, but after I'm glad I did it. Hope this helps!
